So, you've completed your Open Water Diver course.  Congratulations!  Now that you're a safe diver, let us show you some new tricks.  Whether your certification card is brand, spanking new or it has a few years (and dives) on it, we are sure you will enjoy the Advanced Open Water Diver Course.

HOW IT WORKS

The purpose of the Advanced Open Water Diver course is two-fold.  First, we will introduce you to five specialty diving areas during your open water dives.  After completing your home study and a short knowledge development session, you can typically expect to conduct deep, night, wreck, search & recovery or other dives as well as expand your horizons with underwater navigation, underwater photography or other diving-related topics in which you may be interested.  Your instructor will discuss the options available to you prior to or shortly after you enroll.  Also, this course is a valuable opportunity to practice your diving skills and gain additional experience under the supervision of an instructor.

Schedule
You can comfortably complete the Advanced Open Water Diver course in one weekend.  We will meet one evening the week of the dives to answer questions raised during your home study.  Saturday and Sunday we spend diving, either at Lake Minnewaska or at Dutch Springs.  Check the Continuing Education Classes Schedule for details.

Knowledge Development
Similar to the Open Water Diver Course, your knowledge development for each specialty area is accomplished through home study with text and video.  If you wish, you may elect to use CD-ROM in lieu of the manual and video (at the option of the instructor).  Once you've finished learning at home, your class will meet for an abbreviated session with your instructor.  During this meeting, your instructor will apply what you've learned to the open water dives and afford you the opportunity to ask questions.  If this process doesn't sound as involved as your Open Water Diver course, it is because it isn't.  You will do most of your learning diving.

Open Water Dives
Generally speaking, your Advanced Open Water Diver class will be joined by a group of Open Water Divers conducting their certification dives.  The five dives will be split between the two days.  How many dives your class participates in each day depends on the type of dives and your instructor's schedule.  All this will be worked out long before you arrive at the dive site.

What You Will Receive

When you complete your Advanced Open Water Diver course, you will receive a permanent certification card, good for a lifetime and recognized world-wide.  This card is issued by either the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) or Scuba Schools International (SSI), depending on the course in which you enroll.

What It Costs

Your course fee of $275 includes your training materials, certification fees and tuition.  Dive gear and tank rental is not included.  The minimum deposit is $50, with the balance due prior to completing the course.
